We the People of the United States are in need of a renewed federal government, reestablished on the enduring principles that our nation was founded upon: liberty, justice, and equality for all.  A government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”  Our Founding Fathers created the Constitution as the supreme law of the land in order to preserve representative democracy, the balance of power between the branches of the federal government, and the individual rights of citizens.

Whereas our government has overstepped its constitutional bounds and trampled on the civil liberties of Americans, it is incumbent on the People to restore the sanctity of the Constitution in the federal government.  Our Declaration of Independence stipulates “whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.”

People comprise a nation; therefore, all true power must necessarily be derived from and vested in the People.  We the People have the inalienable right to reform our government when it fails to represent us.

WeThePeople.org is a grassroots organization dedicated to the reestablishment of our federal government on the solid foundation of the Constitution.

The ideal of representative democracy is for the People to be represented by their elected officials.  The status quo, however, is far from this ideal.  Politicians are often swayed by the influence of well funded lobbies, resulting in a government which represents and protects special interests rather than the People.

At the highest levels of government, there is no longer a clear distinction between the public and private sectors.  Politicians routinely rotate in and out of public and private sector jobs – a “revolving door” policy fraught with conflicts of interest.  The legal fiction which defines Corporations as persons has compounded the problem by unleashing unlimited amounts of money to influence the electoral process.  Separation of Corporations and State is as essential as the separation of Church and State.  Our failure to maintain a division between the public and private sectors has undermined democracy, resulting in a de facto government of the money, for the money, and by the money.

Our two-party political system has exacerbated the situation.  Partisan politics and chronic gridlock in Washington have crippled the ability of legitimate elected officials – those who are genuinely concerned with the well-being of their constituents – to effectively govern.  Politics in Washington has degenerated into “political theater” and demagoguery – an incessant debate of divisive social issues – while critical governmental problems, including our national debt, are ignored.  Furthermore, the upper echelons of both parties are but the flip sides of the same coin; and that coin, of course, represents money.  This charade is threatening to ruin our nation.

The time has come for the People to elect independent representatives who are not accountable to political parties or to special interest groups.  We plan to initiate a top-down reformation of our federal government by promoting the election of independent candidates who strictly uphold the Constitution. 

As a voice for Americans who feel powerless and disaffected, this nonpartisan organization hopes to unite the People in the common cause of reclaiming our government.
